Every day, there are wars, rumors of wars, and natural disasters happening around the world.  It impacts more lives than we can imagine, and there is an affected group that often lacks a voice and the ability to make any changes: children.  Today, we honor World Children’s Day, the promise behind the creation of the day, and the significance of the holiday.

The United States-Japan Foundation’s signature initiative, the US-Japan Leadership Program (USJLP), is now accepting applications for its 2026–2027 Delegate cohort through Monday, January 5, 2026. Since its founding in 2000, USJLP has brought together emerging and established leaders from both nations to build trust, foster dialogue, and shape a more connected, collaborative future.

In 1960, after yet another devastating natural disaster, the Ise Bay Typhoon of September 1959, the government decided to create Disaster Prevention Day.  To raise public awareness and disaster prevention knowledge, September 1st was chosen to commemorate the date of the Great Kanto Earthquake.  

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security.

Humanitarian efforts.  Humanitarian intervention.  In some capacity, we’ve heard the word ‘humanitarian’, especially in times of conflict or disaster.  It’s common for people to become desensitized when they’re constantly exposed to something.  Well, allow me to break you out of that fog as I reintroduce you to the thing that resides within us all: humanity.

We at Giving Tuesday Japan had the exclusive opportunity to interview her about her mission, what inspired her to join Chance For Children, and how we all can support this amazing cause.

This is a free cram school that provides learning support to children who, for various reasons, are unable to attend paid cram schools. We hope that students who are taught by all-volunteer instructors will grow to become people who can help others someday. We place great importance on being there for others.

LivEQuality HUB, a certified NPO, is an NPO that provides "housing and connections" to single mothers in Nagoya. Founded in January 2022, we have not only introduced more than 450 single mothers to places to connect, but also provided housing to 27 single mothers and their children.
