Chubu Walkathon 2026

Formerly known as the Nagoya Walkathon and International Charity Festival, the Chubu Walkathon has been showing that you can have fun while helping people since 1992*.  Held annually on a Sunday in May, this year's walkathon takes place on May 24, 2026.

What is the Chubu Walkathon?

Chubu Walkathon 2026

The Chubu Walkathon and International Charity Festival, most commonly referred to as the Chubu Walkathon, is a charity festival that started in Nagoya.  At the time, it was hosted by the American Business Community of Nagoya (ABCN).  In 2000, the ABCN merged with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), and it now represents the ACCJ's Chubu Chapter.  At present, the walkathon is hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) Chubu Chapter and Nagoya International School (NIS).  While the names of the organization hosting it and the event itself have changed, its mission to support local charities while bringing the community together has remained unchanged.

Mission: To actively support local charities and improve the lives of the less fortunate by creating an opportunity to increase awareness, recruit volunteers, and raise funds at a family-friendly, international outdoor event.

How exactly does the Chubu Walkathon bring the Japanese and international community together?  By having what can only be described as the perfect blend between a block party and a Japanese festival.  “While the main objective of the Chubu Walkathon International Charity Festival is to raise money for local charities, we would also like to emphasize that it is a very fun and exciting day for you and your entire family.  The Walkathon has something for everyone...of all ages!” (Chubu Walkathon).  While the official list of organizations that will be supported by the walkathon hasn’t been released yet, you can see the types of organizations they have supported in the past here

Fun in Meijo Park

From games and live music to Japanese and international food vendors, the Chubu Walkathon is the perfect place to come out with your family or your friends.  Located at Meijo Park in Nagoya, the event starts at 10 am with “Walkathon Song”, a performance by James Havens, followed by the opening ceremony.

Tickets

While there are no entry tickets, attendees are asked to purchase a raffle ticket: ¥3,000 for Adults and ¥1,000 for kids/students.  In addition to counting as an entry ticket, the raffle ticket also enters you into the raffle contest with amazing prizes.  100% of the ticket proceeds go to the charities that will be chosen at the end of the year.  This is a cash-only event, so please remember to bring cash to buy food, drinks, and participate in the various activities.

Events

The Chubu Walkathon has live performances by bands and dance groups, a raffle draw, food vendors, and 20 fun activities; you are sure to find something interesting to do.  Whether you choose to enjoy the walk, the company, or just support the cause, bring some comfy shoes and a positive attitude.  Happy walking 👟

*1991 and 1992 are both used on the official website, but for this article, I will be using 1992.
