8月中旬に日本を訪れると、輝く提灯、にぎやかな踊り、故郷に帰る家族連れの人だかりに気づくかもしれません。これが日本の最も重要な伝統のひとつ、お盆です。

今日は、山の日を祝うにあたり、日本の地理に関する統計を見てみましょう。環境省によれば：日本の国土の67%は森林が占め、山地と丘陵は70%を占めています。山で覆われる面積が70%というのはかなりの広さです。

日本は再び世界をホストする準備が整っています。今回は、人間中心の持続可能な未来の形成に焦点を当てたテーマを掲げています。

毎年夏になると、日本の川や海岸沿いで本当に不思議な光景が見られます。何千もの灯籠が水面に浮かび、穏やかで夢のような景色を作り出します。この美しい伝統行事は灯籠流しと呼ばれ、祖先を敬い、平和を祈り、生命そのものを祝う心からの儀式です。

FoE Japan（エフ・オー・イー・ジャパン）は、地球規模での環境問題に取り組む国際環境NGOです。世界73ヵ国に200万人のサポーターを有する Friends of the Earth International のメンバー団体として、1980年から日本で活動をしています。

With the World Expo currently being held in Osaka, many of us are curious about expos.  What is a World Expo?  What is the purpose behind it?  With this article, I hope to answer most, if not all, of those questions.
